At 2:49pm, my sister texted me this:

Her message caught me by surprise for two reasons. First, I didn’t know she read anything I wrote. The second was that she had challenged what I had written, which read:

I couldn’t see anything wrong with what I’d written, so I asked for a little more insight. She answered:

“I feel like that doesn’t make u a well rounded person like society says it would…I feel like the more you learn about one subject the more questions that can be brought up…”

I have never been satisfied with focus.

I’ve been a waitress and a bookkeeper. I changed schools three times and my major twice. I took classes in criminology, accounting, English, biology, and statistics (after my general course requirements had been filled). I enjoy reading about true crime and neuroscience and grammar. My original portfolio consists of writing. And photography. And videography. And graphic design.

I work as a content marketer which means knowing a little bit about SEO, a little bit about social media, a little bit about interlinking and outreach, and a lot about writing and research. But even those things can feel monotonous, so I’ve been dabbling in design at work, too.

Is it bad to be great at nothing?
