Meeting Daddy

The heavenly scent of rose water mists through the air and lands on my smooth, naked skin. I make sure to waft it towards my breasts and the deep crevice beneath them. Daddy will be here soon, and I…

The Strength of the Jack J. Valenti CLASS Program

By: Erica Robinson

The Jack J. Valenti School of Communications is the most populous college on the University of Houston (UH) campus. For decades, this college has been producing some of the brightest journalistic minds. The spring class of 2019 totaled over 1,000 students, each of whom was destined for greatness in the field of communications. The Valenti college is located near the edge of the UH campus and is bold and modern in its updated — and still in-progress — design. Even in the summer months, the college is still full of students working vigorously to complete their communications-oriented degrees.

Senior communications minor, Jayla, is one of several Valenti students and spoke about her enriching journey through the college. For all four years of her undergraduate career, Jayla has been a proudly declared communications minor. She elaborated on her dreams of becoming a broadcast journalist and how she had not limited herself or her goals. She spoke fondly of her years as a Valenti student. She expressed that the journey was challenging, but rewarding in the end. Based off of her rather glowing reviews of the college, one could certainly ascertain that she enjoyed her time in the communications program. Her wise words to incoming communications — or CLASS — freshmen were to make sure that all work was handled sufficiently in order to succeed in the Valenti college.

The demographics of Valenti students is quite reflective of Houston’s — and, even more specifically, the University of Houston’s — diverse population makeup. The Fall 2018 statistics of the CLASS program are telling of the students who make the college what it is. There were 2,205 bachelors degrees awarded, along with 213 masters degrees and 61 doctoral degrees, totaling a whopping 2,479 degrees at the end of the semester.

As of July 2019, the Valenti School of Communications has been ranked among 75 of he top communication programs throughout the globe. This staggering accomplishment is one of many. The Spectrum South magazine, an online publication dedicated to the LGBTQ community, was co-founded by Megan Smith, a 2018 mass communication graduate student from the University of Houston. Washington, D.C. invited eight Valenti professors to attend the 2019 International Communication Association (ICA) Annual Conference, where they were able to host an event. These impressive feats are not uncommon to the Valenti college and its inhabitants. The accomplishments listed are only a few of the many bragging rights that this college has earned itself over the years.

The success of the Valenti college’s students is due, in large part, to the careful one-on-one attention that each student is granted during any point of the academic year. Valenti boasts an extraordinary staff of advisers that are ready and willing to help students stay on track with their academic goals. CLASS students are able to book an appointment online with an advisor during weekdays. With such a hefty volume of students in need of guidance, these appointments fill up fast. However, if a student is able to book a session with one of the many helpful advisers on staff, they are in for a more than satisfactory experience that is sure to help them progress in their academic journey.

The advisers at Valenti not only check up on a student’s progress — how many classes they have taken or are currently taking as well as current grade point averages within the college — but also take the time to draw out a meticulous academic map for students to follow before signing up for future classes. These advising sessions are specifically designed with the student in mind. After a 30-minute sit-down with an adviser, a student is well-equipped to stay on a 4-year track to ungraduated and/or graduate success.

As previously stated, Valenti has been cranking out brilliance for years. The brilliance achieved within this college has proven, however, to be more than a notion. With the hard work of students, paired with the teaching and advising staff’s overwhelming concern with student success, the workload required of Valenti to so proudly boast such outstanding students is a group effort. The methods of success have proven more than reliable throughout the years and will continue to push students toward their full potential. In short, the Jack J. Valenti School of Communications is quite a desirable candidate when it comes to choosing a college that will produce a student’s best version of themselves.
