Riding the Rollercoaster

I actually quite enjoy riding rollercoasters. Through the years we had our fair share of riding some. Not sure if the “crazy meds” (whatever she was given at the hospital) were leaving her body…

Injustice overpowering our society

Injustice Overpowering Our Society

Imagine being scared to walk to school in fear that you will be kidnapped. Envision being taken from your loved ones, and sold all around the world. The previous statements are real situations that many people have to face, every day. Thousands of injustices occur in our world today. Many people have fought for different injustices and for what they believe. Sadly, the rates of certain injustices are not going down, but instead they are increasing (expanding, growing, becoming greater). There are many solutions we can make possible if we all come together to help fight against injustice. Specifically, three injustices have greatly compelled today’s society.

To start, one of the most significant injustices that we face in our society today is the injustice of human trafficking. The most common forms of human trafficking are sex and labor trafficking. Human trafficking is defined as the sexual or labor forced exploitation of humans, involving trade and harmful actions. The injustice of human trafficking is estimated to be one of the top criminal industries in the world behind illegal drugs and arms trafficking. The first piece of evidence to support the injustice of human trafficking is that the average teen enters the sex trade in the United States when they are only 12–14 years of age. Teens are often tricked into the sex trade after being offered money or a job. Human trafficking most often occurs in developing countries, meaning that they do not have the education or financial support needed to protect themselves against predators, and they are easily manipulated. Secondly, the injustice of human trafficking is a significant injustice in our society based on the fact that there are more slaves in the world today than at any point in history. An estimated 21 million individuals across the globe are facing slavery, including actions of human trafficking. Human trafficking often occurs in areas with low levels of education, so people do not know any better. Lastly, the majority of teens in human trafficking are female. Young girls are sold all around the world, and they are trafficked constantly. The high rates of females involved in trafficking results in many teenage pregnancies. Teenage pregnancies will also cause females to not be able to obtain a well-paying job in the future, resulting in a continuous cycle of traffickers exploiting and preying on them. Sadly, there are not many solutions that can fully resolve the injustice of human trafficking. However, we can help by donating to anti-trafficking organizations, and possessing (having, owning, holding) the knowledge to identify a trafficker accurately.

Secondly, the lack of education for women is one of the top compelling injustices in today’s society. First, girls do not have enough access to education. The weak system of girls education is described in a recent article called, “Education in emergencies,” published in the Women and Girls Right to Education. Author Eman Mohammed states, “Education is a human right and should be guaranteed and protected for all people, at all times.” The previous quote shows the support for equal rights amongst all people, including girls. The previous quote also supports that boys should not be favored over girls to attend school, which is often the case. Girls are expected to stay home and do household chores, while boys are at school getting an education. My second example to support the injustice of the lack of girls education explains that the lack of knowledge will result in most girls getting married at a young age and experiencing teenage pregnancy. Teenage pregnancy will forever interrupt (Interfere, break up, intrude) the girls’ life, meaning she may never get an education. Teenage pregnancy and marriage will also cause fewer opportunities for girls to get jobs in the future. Finally, the lack of women education is one of the top captivating industries in today’s society because the distance between the women’s house and the school is too far. Girls are afraid that they will get harassed, assaulted, kidnapped, or raped, just on their walk to school. Since there is a fear of travel, many girls will not attempt to attend school. We can help the injustice of the lack of girls education by raising awareness, building more schools in closer proximity to towns, and by breaking cultural barriers.

Finally, the gender pay gap is one of the top compelling injustices in today’s society. To start, women are not hired as much as men. The jobs being applied for are more often rewarded to men because our society believes that men can perform more difficult, time-consuming, and more labor-intensive tasks. Secondly, women have additional tasks at home, such as household duties and taking care of children. Other tasks at home cause a problem because women often need to work shorter hours or find a job that will fulfill specific time requirements. Lastly, women work the same jobs as men but still come into conflict with unequal pay. Low pay shows how women are discriminated against even when performing the same task as men. For example, if a man and a woman are both doctors, the man would get paid more, even though the woman is completing the same requirement. Discrimination and unfair pay help support the point of which women should be paid the same amount as men. The issue of the gender pay gap can be resolved by the spread of awareness, and by creating parental lead policies.

To conclude, many injustices occur in our society every day. We need to pick our heads up and come up with solutions. As we now know, many injustices arise in areas of poor education. The low levels of education strongly affect the outcome of the lives of many, which is why school needs to be put first. These issues of injustice are not just going to fade away. The issues will continue to grow and spread if we do not take action. Injustices are present in every community; nevertheless, organizations around the world are trying to make a change. We need to spread awareness, volunteer, and host a fundraiser to resolve the injustices in our society. Making a difference is very easy if everyone contributes.
