Challenge Approach Hack

We many a time face challenges or activities that are seemingly daunting and improbable to solve. They may discourage us in many ways or lead us into procrastination — a familiar, comfy hideout. This leads to piling and lagging behind on tasks and in turn anxiety or at worse, paralysis (especially in a pressured work environment). However, there is a simple, exciting way of approaching any kind of a problem set that needs our impeccable intervention. It is a powerful method that gives you control over your life and everything around you. It gives you the power to own and influence the outcome of anything you indulge in. Let’s get into it, shall we?

Challenges are the one holy grail factor for growth in the best imaginable ways. No one challenge exists solely on its own, they are always part of a bigger picture, piece of a bigger puzzle. To begin with, you’ll need to recognize which puzzle the challenge is associated with. A good hint to this is asking ourselves what would the solution influence? What sphere or realm does the problem exist in? To put it in an analogy, the Bird’s-Eye-View of the problem’s greater scope would be the best fit. It is a paramount step because it presents a hack on how to comprehensively strike the balance in the puzzle by solving a challenge collectively in relation to other factors at play, without which it would be cumbersome.

Next would be destructuring the puzzle and analyzing how the pieces fit in the puzzle. Notice how each piece co-relates to the rest, how does a little tweak alter the puzzle? What combinations or permutations can be used to come up with a solution? How will the tweaks affect the balance? Would the balance be tolerable or unbearable considering cost-benefit analysis? Could you be missing a trick somewhere? Would a fresh pair of eyes see the problem from a different dimension? Would altering a different piece solve the puzzle without changing the current suspicious piece of the problem?

With that broken up, you will now stand in a good chance to evaluate which combinations could work best depending on what is at stake. You will be presented with interesting scenarios of possibilities without which you would be limited to a tunnel vision. Moreover, you will have an easier time and clarity solving a future or recurrent problem should the puzzle environment or ecosystem change. If done right, you will gradually become more skilled at problem-solving and unlocking blockers. Your confidence will skyrocket and relationships with workmates will certainly improve. Consistency would see you become a master in no time — what others would call genius you would consider that common practice.

To conclude on this week’s episode, it's important to know that this approach is best leveraged by a growth-mindset. Anticipate rather than expect the results. Iterate on the process until you find a satisfactory solution. Avoid a one-man’s show by asking for help on insights whenever you stumble. Studying and approaching a solution is a beautiful combination of art and science, application to which, rewards great satisfaction depending on the degree of complexity. Next, we will look at the practical applications of this.
