How to Improve Your Storytelling

Storytelling is such an important part of raising brand awareness, and it is an area I see a large number of people in the creative industries (people in general) struggling with, especially startups, new designers, new artists, etc. They all have amazing stories to tell, but struggle to find a way to share that story in a captivating way with the world. One of the frameworks that I find useful is the SCQA framework:

But how should you start incorporating this you might be thinking? Paying attention to the structure of stories I like really helps me with this, be it a movie, a book, or an advertisement. As an example, check out the link to a Nike Ad I just saw… Nike has this down to a T with their #justdoit campaigns (actually all their campaigns), the following Nike Ad captured all of the above, in just a 1 minute and 30 second video! Not only this one, again watch any Nike Ad (or any story, book or movie that you really like) and you will see it following a similar pattern…

In the background you hear Serena Williams narrating the story, taking you from Situation (the excruciating struggle), the complication (the double standards rife in society), the question (how should they react), the answer (by showing their indomitable spirit)
