An Update on my Temporary Disappearance from the Internet

In 2021/2022, two of my tweets went viral, receiving thousands of likes. The sudden attention caught me off guard, leading to a lot of unsolicited messages and direct attacks from individuals who disagreed with my views. To make matters worse, someone even threatened to come to my university to find me because I refused to share my personal phone number with them. It was a frightening experience. To make matters worse, I got messages like this from different people.

For those who may not know, I used to live in Kaduna, Nigeria, which has been plagued by numerous attacks from bandits. Last year, the airport, train, and roads were all targeted, resulting in multiple fatalities. It was a dire situation, with many people too scared to travel. I also couldn’t travel to Lagos to receive my MacBook from Enyata. It was delivered to me via a Logistics company. Some nights, I struggled to sleep as I heard gunshots close to my home, constantly living in fear of being the next victim of kidnapping or banditry. Social media was the least of my worries.

Okay, enough of the sadness and gloom. 2022 wasn’t all bad for me. There were good parts. I am now a graduate of Computer Science! Or something like that, lol. I have completed my final exams and my final project. All that’s left is the release of my exam results, after which I’ll be cleared and awarded my degree, but it’s not too early to celebrate. Is it?

I won a MacBook from Enyata! Every stage was rigorous and intense. I connected with several talented people. At some point, I lost faith that I would win the MacBook, but here we areeee. Due to the security challenges in Kaduna at the time, I couldn’t pick up the MacBook physically. However, Mercy Markus and the good people at Enyata ensured that my MacBook got to me and in perfect condition. I am very grateful to them.

I was fortunate to work with two fantastic data companies in the United States: TheDataBloq and BlackWomeninData. I was one of the minds behind the excellent work at TheDataBloq. We pride ourselves in sharing accurate data information that helps seasoned and aspiring techies jumpstart the next phase of their data-driven careers.

I also started my own Virtual Assistant Business. I get to work with tech influencers from all around the world, with a focus on the US. I have assisted in securing brand deals and even increased the number of Instagram followers from 7k to 80k organically in just one year. I manage courses, books, newsletters, brand outreach, and the daily operations of these tech influencers. My favorite part of this business is being the driving force behind some of your favorite tech influencers, without anyone knowing. But I plan on making myself known this year. 😊

I have moved out of Kaduna and I feel much safer in my new location. This has also had a positive impact on my mental health. I have made new friends and have people in my life who I care about deeply and who reciprocate those feelings. It’s truly blissful! DataFestAfrica was an opportunity to meet many of my Twitter friends in person, which was an exciting experience after years of online conversations.

I worked on a couple of personal projects in 2022. You can check them out on my Tableau Public Profile. I intend to make tutorials on all my projects and share my knowledge with the world. So be on the lookout for that.

I intend to write more, speak more, and work on data projects that reflect my views of data ethics. I’ll also take a few certification exams this year. Connecting with top data industry professionals is also top on my list.

In conclusion, my time away from the public eye has been an enriching and fulfilling experience. I’ve come to appreciate the significance of self-care, building relationships, and continued learning.
