Purpose Beyond Education

Schools are the first step that an individual takes towards their future. While it becomes important for the schools to help and provide the students with the necessary skill set for their career, they also help in the development of the children in areas not just limited to education. With children spending considerable time of their lives in schools, it’s important to not limit schools to just a give and take relationship between teachers and students where only the syllabus is taught.

After families, schools are the first place where a child begins their social interaction with others. Schools allow one to connect with others of their age as well as their teachers. With various group activities in schools, be it group projects, playing sports together, it allows the students to learn the significance of teamwork and understanding how to compromise with others to get a single task done. Schools help to broaden their horizon by helping them get exposed to the various opinions and viewpoints and are not just limited to perspectives of their family members.

In comparison to universities and colleges, where a student chooses a particular field they want to pursue for their career, schools provide them with overall development in every subject. Now with today’s education, schools are trying to make their syllabus more flexible to enable curiosity and learning that will help them with skills needed as a human being and not just for a job. Schools help children with development of their physical skills which can be limited due to the restrained nature of homes. With various activities such as sports, school events like dance among many helps the children to channel their abilities in various fields.

With the world shifting inside one’s house due to the sudden pandemic, many lives have been disrupted. The schools are not residing in one single app of the devices of the children. At the peak of the crisis, UNESCO data showed that over 1.6 billion learners in more than 190 countries were out of school. The pandemic had led to changes with children to adjust to such a change when they should be focusing on their development and learning new skills. The schools should ensure that despite students being inside, they are not losing out on their learning.
