The so-called social media platform is a great platform for communication. However, in this lockdown, we are using this extensively and many facts are on the horizon that we need to have a look at before relying on social media.

This played a very important role in the US election and favored Donald Trump to win.

The wave of privacy concerns has hit the tech industry pretty badly. It was March 17, 2018, when Christopher Wylie told The New York Times and The Guardian/Observer everything about the policy of Cambridge Analytica. Ever since then, people are more concerned about privacy, and he is widely known as the whistleblower.

We might not see this as a potential threat at this point but this has a greater significance than we often fail to realize. The masterminds of social media are collecting our data which is normal as we are willingly submitting our data.

Everything has been created with a mix of psychological theories and economics. We often scroll through the news feed of Facebook but have we ever thought about how the feed is being arranged. The feed is being arranged by analyzing our data and providing what we want to see, so when we scroll through the news feed among a lot of unnecessary things there are a few we like which gives us a little dopamine reward.

And our likes’ algorithm and reacts are analyzed to determine our personality. So, it is reasonable to say that Facebook knows our personality better than the people around us.

Facebook might say that they are solving every issue regarding privacy but there is always a concern. If they can do it once, they are more likely to do it again.
