What values do you measure yourself up to?

We might often lose the sense of progress made so far. Our initial motivation evaporates. Or we cling too much, forcing ourselves into futile catatonia.

Proper evaluation of success has a direct effect on how fast and steady we advance. Choose good metrics beforehand to endure the dips ahead, as well as to identify the cul-de-sacs in an organised manner.

How can we test the quality of our evaluation?

First of all, we must make sure that we base our opinion on the reality — our brains are masters of biases and delusions. Consistent feedback loops provide a remedy.

Secondly, the results of evaluation should be immediate. Any lag introduces unnecessary difficulties for prompt accounting, leaving blind spots in place and making us prone to inertia.

Thirdly, we must focus on what we can control rather than the domains of little to none influence. And we’d better be honest about we can manage.

Finally, check whether our values are socially constructive. If we destroy and harm others to lead us forward, we are more likely to play the negative-sum game.

Stay aware of your strategy and get ready to update the tactics often.
