You Have Not Lost Your Creativity

For writers who can’t write.

I’ve been there. I’ve talked about it.

You go days, weeks, and even months when you can’t write anything.

You sit down every day, open your laptop, and you write words, but half an hour later, you realize they don’t make sense.

You get your journal and a pen, and you scribble some ideas, but you don’t know where to start.

With every day that passes, you get more frustrated because it’s not like you’re not trying.

Eventually, you start doubting your skills as a writer. Maybe you’re not meant to be a published author or a successful blogger. You had a good run, but it’s over now.

It wasn’t talent — just luck.

And now you’ve lost all of your creativity. You can’t write, so that must be it. All the words in you, the stories, the ideas — they’re all gone, and they’re probably never coming back.

But that’s not true.

I know it feels like the end of the world, and like all the plans you had for yourself have to be altered to fit your non-creative life now, but that’s not true.

Those words you think vanished into thin air? Still there. The stories and ideas you wanted to write? You can still do that. The dreams you had for yourself as an author? You can still reach them.

All of your skills and talent are still inside of you. You’re just struggling to tap into them, and that’s okay.

This obstacle feels like it’s gone on forever, but it’s going to end. That’s a promise.

You love writing. It’s one of the things you’re most passionate about in the world. Do you genuinely want to give up on it?

This is just a bump in the road. Or, shit — it might really be a mountain. But even the highest mountains have been climbed.

Don’t force the creativity inside of you out, and don’t stress about it. Trust the process, yourself, and your abilities.

And, despite the ache in your chest, keep writing. Eventually, your breakthrough will come — but it won’t come if you give up.
